For the positioning systems of the 3-series family, the drive technology specialist provides its customers with standardized simulation models that map the behavior of the drives. They can be integrated into the customer's digital machine twin regardless of the manufacturer.
As a component supplier for mechanical engineering, halstrup-walcher GmbH, based in the Black Forest region in South-West Germany, has specialized, among other things, in the automatic adjustment of machine axes. With the help of positioning systems, format adjustments can be implemented error-free and efficiently, thus reducing setup times.
For the positioning systems of the 3-series family, the drive technology specialist provides its customers with standardized model files that simulate the behavior of the drives. This means that they can be integrated into the customer's digital machine twin. Thanks to the standardization, they can be used regardless of the manufacturer and can be used in different simulation environments without any adjustments.
With the help of simulation models, real machine systems can be modeled and used for experiments, so that development time and production costs can be saved (up to approx. 16%). There are already a large number of simulation environments from different manufacturers in which digital twins can be tested.
The use of simulation models offers numerous advantages: Parameters can be varied easily and development alternatives can be assessed against each other. Thus, it is possible to reduce the number of prototypes and achieve a reduction in production costs. In addition, relevant simulation results are quickly available, thereby saving development time. Another benefit: Problematic operating conditions can be simulated without risk and thus avoided in real life.
"We are committed to providing our customers with precise positioning systems that enable fast and efficient format adjustment processes. With the introduction of the model files, we have reached an important milestone: the format adjustment is already simulated highly realistically during machine development, so that the machine behavior can be analyzed and optimized under various conditions"
says Christian Sura, who is the managing director of halstrup-walcher together with Jürgen Walcher.
The FMUs (Functional Mockup Units) from halstrup-walcher contain a replica of the PSx3xx firmware and include basic functionalities that can be used free of charge. Additional functions can be activated on request. The FMUs are currently available for PSx3xx positioning devices with ProfiNet and Ethernet/IP and will be continuously expanded to include other bus systems and product lines.
